Chapter 6 - The Confession

I met Julian at a high-end coffee shop in downtown D.C. He was sitting in a leather booth, looking incredibly smug.

I sat across from him, purposely hunching my shoulders, making my hands shake slightly. "Julian, please," I pleaded, keeping my voice wavering. "Don't take Lily away from her. We don't have the money for a legal battle. Where did her college fund even go? You took all of it."

Julian leaned in, taking the bait. He loved feeling superior.

"Her college fund is gone, Sarah," he whispered maliciously. "I needed it to cover some... liquidity issues at the firm. And let’s be honest, Clara is too stupid to manage money anyway. If you cross me, I’ll drain the joint accounts, freeze her credit, and leave her on the street."

"You stole from your own daughter?" I whispered, ensuring the microphone caught every syllable.

"I took what was mine," he sneered. "Now, go pack their bags."

I stopped shaking. I sat up perfectly straight, my posture instantly shifting from a frightened old woman to a military commander.

"No," I said, my voice dropping an octave, cold and absolute.

Julian frowned, confused by the sudden change in my demeanor. "Excuse me?"

"You have thirty seconds to leave this cafe, Julian," I said, sliding out of the booth. "Enjoy your afternoon. It will be your last one as a free man."
