Chapter 7 - The Reckoning

The combat drones unleashed a synchronized barrage of non-lethal electrical tethers.

The precision strikes hit Thomas and his guards instantly, sending thousands of volts of electricity through their bodies.

They collapsed to the concrete floor, convulsing violently before passing out completely.

Chloe managed to dive behind a stack of wooden shipping crates just before a tether could strike her.

I used a jagged piece of metal protruding from the floor to slice through my plastic zip ties.

"Rostova, secure the perimeter and watch the baby," I shouted over the hum of the hovering drones.

I grabbed Thomas's dropped pistol and moved cautiously toward the shipping crates.

The rain hammered against the tin roof, creating a deafening roar that masked my footsteps.

"It is over, Chloe," I called out, keeping my weapon raised.

"You have nowhere left to run, and the military police are already on their way."

A gunshot rang out, and a bullet ricocheted off the concrete inches from my boot.

"I am not going back to poverty, Anna!" Chloe screamed hysterically from the shadows.

She lunged from behind the crates, firing wildly in my direction.

I dropped to one knee and fired a single, calculated shot into her right shoulder.

Chloe screamed in pain, dropping her weapon as the impact threw her backward onto the wet floor.

I rushed forward and kicked her gun out of reach before pinning her down.

"You always chose the wrong side," I said coldly, placing handcuffs on her bleeding arm.

I turned around to check on Mark, who was still tied to the metal chair.

He was staring at me with a mixture of terror and awe, finally realizing the true power of the woman he had betrayed.

"Anna, please," Mark begged pitifully as I approached him.

"I can change, we can be a family again, just untie me."

I pulled a tactical combat knife from my boot and pressed the flat edge against his cheek.

"You made your choice the night you threw me out in the cold," I whispered.

I cut the ropes binding his legs but left his hands tightly bound to the chair.

"The police can deal with you," I said, turning my back on him forever.

Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the foundation of the shipyard, sending shockwaves through the air.

The wall of the warehouse tore open, revealing a heavily armored tactical vehicle armed with a mounted machine gun.

The driver leaned out of the window, and I recognized the terrifying face of the cartel boss Thomas had sold me out to.
