Chapter 2 - The Stolen Legacy

The heavy hospital door slammed shut behind Mark and the military police.
My heart hammered against my ribs as I looked down at my newborn son resting peacefully in his bassinet.
"Secure this room and establish a perimeter immediately," the general barked at Captain Rostova.
I grabbed the encrypted tablet and immediately accessed the secure banking portal for my grandfather's trust.
The screen loaded with agonizing slowness before flashing a bright red warning of a zero balance.
Mark was telling the truth.
Twenty million dollars had been completely wiped out in a single wire transfer just two hours ago.
"How is this possible?" I demanded, feeling a cold sweat break out across my forehead.
"The bank requires biometric voice verification and a physical fingerprint to authorize any transfer over one million dollars."
Captain Rostova tapped her earpiece, communicating silently with our cyber warfare division.
"Colonel, we just pulled the security footage from the main bank branch downtown," she said grimly.
She cast the video feed from her device onto the large monitor mounted on the hospital wall.
The grainy footage showed a woman walking into the VIP banking suite wearing my signature trench coat and large sunglasses.
The woman presented my stolen identification, placed her hand on the biometric scanner, and spoke into the microphone.
The security system flashed green, authorizing the massive withdrawal instantly.
"That is impossible," I whispered, staring at the screen in pure disbelief.
"Nobody can perfectly duplicate my fingerprints and my exact vocal frequency."
The woman on the screen slowly lowered her dark sunglasses to sign the final authorization papers.
When she turned her face toward the security camera, the blood completely drained from my face.
It was my estranged sister, Chloe.
She had been missing for three years after falling into a dangerous world of underground crime syndicates.

"Your sister did not just steal the money, Colonel," Rostova said, her voice dropping to a terrifying whisper.
"She used her physical access to the bank terminal to upload a highly classified military virus into our defense network."
