Chapter 9 - The Mother's Sacrifice

Gertrude laughed like a completely deranged maniac, her eyes wild with a terrifying, unhinged madness.

She screamed that I was entirely responsible for ruining their beautiful, luxurious, and easy lifestyle.

The cartel boss finally realized there was no money in the briefcase and angrily raised his heavy weapon toward Brandon.

He promised to execute my pathetic husband right there on the dock for wasting the cartel's valuable time.

Total chaos instantly erupted as Brandon screamed like a coward, dropping his gun and falling to his knees to beg for his miserable life.

I knew this tiny window of distraction was the only chance I would ever get to save my daughter.

I dropped the empty metal briefcase and sprinted directly toward the explosive-rigged chair with absolutely no hesitation.

Brandon looked up and hesitated, realizing his own mother was actually insane enough to murder her only grandchild.

I closed the distance in seconds, pulling a high-voltage stun gun hidden deep inside my coat pocket.

I drove the crackling weapon directly into Gertrude's exposed neck, sending a massive shock through her entire body.

She convulsed violently, her eyes rolling back into her head as she collapsed heavily onto the wet wooden dock.

The remote detonator slipped from her twitching fingers and fell harmlessly into the dark, freezing ocean below.

I instantly threw my body over Skylar, shielding her completely just as the FBI snipers opened fire from the shadows.

The deafening sound of high-powered rifles echoed through the fog, instantly dropping the cartel boss and his armed guards.

I frantically untied the ropes binding my daughter, tears of overwhelming relief streaming down my face.

Suddenly, Brandon grabbed a heavy, rusted steel pipe from the dock and lunged directly at the back of my head with pure, murderous intent.
