Chapter 4 - The Betrayal at Home

My mind raced as I tried to process the impossible information Marcus had just delivered.
There was absolutely no logical way a dead man could be logging into my home office computer to steal my company's assets.
I told Marcus to remotely access the hidden nanny cameras I had discreetly installed around my house in preparation for the baby.
I needed to see exactly who had been inside my locked office while I was away at work today.
Marcus hacked into my home network and sent a live video feed directly to my encrypted smartphone.
I crouched behind a cold concrete pillar in the parking lot and tapped the screen to open the video file.
The black-and-white night vision footage showed the interior of my dark, empty living room.
Suddenly, a tall, hooded figure stepped out of the shadows and walked casually toward the kitchen island.
The figure reached up and pulled back the heavy hood, illuminated by the faint glow of the refrigerator light.
I stopped breathing entirely as I stared at the face displayed on my cracked phone screen.
It was undeniably my older brother David, looking older and scarred, but very much alive.
He poured himself a glass of water and leaned against the counter, completely comfortable in my home.
A second figure walked into the camera frame, and I immediately recognized my mother, Margaret, wearing her travel coat.
She hugged David tightly, laughing and kissing his cheek as if they were celebrating a massive victory.
I turned the volume up on my phone, pressing the speaker tightly against my ear to hear their muffled conversation.
David asked my mother if the toxic dosage was high enough to ensure the baby would not survive the night.
My mother smiled wickedly and assured him that Emma would miscarry before morning, securing the final piece of their plan.
David took a sip of his water and stated that once the heir was eliminated, the inheritance clauses would default the entire estate to him.
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a stack of legal documents bearing an official court seal.
May you like
David bragged that the judge had already signed the paperwork legally resurrecting him from the dead.
I realized with absolute horror that my family had spent the last three years orchestrating my complete and total destruction.
