Chapter 3 - The Ghost Account

I stared at the doctor in sheer disbelief, realizing I was being perfectly framed for the attempted murder of my own family.

I frantically explained that my mother had stolen the chemical from my laboratory to frame me, but the doctor refused to listen.

I knew that if the police arrested me now, my mother would have free reign to finish the job and steal my entire fortune.

I backed away from the doctor, turned around, and sprinted down the hospital corridor toward the emergency exit.

I burst out into the damp, freezing parking lot just as two police cruisers pulled up to the main entrance with their lights flashing.

I ducked behind a row of parked cars, pulling my cell phone from my pocket to call the only person I could still trust.

Marcus had been my head of corporate security for a decade, and he owed me his life after I paid for his daughter's cancer treatments.

He answered on the first ring, and I quickly ordered him to trace the offshore trust account numbers I had memorized from the stolen documents.

I sat shivering in the shadows for twenty minutes until Marcus finally called me back with the trace results.

Marcus sounded completely terrified as he explained that the offshore trust was heavily protected by military-grade encryption.

He told me that the stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars had already been converted into untraceable cryptocurrency.

I demanded to know if he could pinpoint the physical location of the person who had set up the ghost account.

Marcus hesitated, the silence on the line making my stomach twist into painful knots.

He finally admitted that he had managed to track the original IP address used to create the fraudulent offshore trust.

He said the account was not created by my mother, nor was it created by any external hackers trying to ruin my business.

Marcus revealed that the ghost account was registered and managed directly from the secure master computer inside my own home office.

The only other person who possessed the biometric fingerprint clearance to unlock that specific computer was my older brother, David.

The horrifying problem was that I had personally identified David's burned body in a morgue three years ago.
