Chapter 8 - The Syndicate Awakes

"End of the line, Holloway," the corrupt Police Chief growled, racking his shotgun.
He was the highest authority in Charleston, and he was completely on Alejandro's payroll.
"You sold your badge for cartel money," I said, placing my body firmly between him and Emma.
The Chief sneered, preparing to pull the trigger and end my reign permanently.
But before he could fire, the concrete floor beneath our feet began to vibrate violently.
The heavy sound of approaching helicopter rotors shook the rusted roof of the warehouse.
The bay doors behind the Chief were suddenly blown apart by high-explosive breaching charges.
My men had finally arrived.
Dozens of elite syndicate enforcers, dressed in heavy tactical armor, stormed into the hallway.
They disarmed the shocked Police Chief in a matter of seconds, slamming him forcefully against the brick wall.
Alejandro's cartel soldiers outside realized they were now drastically outgunned and hopelessly surrounded.
The tide of the war had completely turned in less than a minute.
"Secure the perimeter and take the cartel boss alive," I ordered my lieutenant.
I looked down at the trembling Police Chief, who was now sweating profusely in his expensive uniform.
"You are going to escort us to your precinct right now," I commanded him.
"Why?" he stammered, his false bravado entirely gone.
I held up the black metal flash drive that Rachel had given me.
"Because we are going to use your secure police servers to broadcast this ledger to the entire world."
We loaded into my heavily armored convoy and sped toward the downtown police headquarters.
The city streets were a blur of rain and neon lights as we executed the final stage of my revenge.

But as we pulled into the secure underground parking of the precinct, the flash drive in my hand began to beep rapidly.
A small red light on the device began flashing in a frantic, terrifying rhythm.
