Chapter 13 - Unholy Alliances

David placed the cold barrel of the revolver against Detective Vance's temple.
"Sixty seconds on the clock, Marcus," David announced coldly.
"Let them go, David!" Vance shouted, struggling violently against the heavy zip-ties.
"Kill me if you want, but let my daughter walk away from this!"
"Dad, shut up!" Olivia cried out, her voice cracking with terror.
"Marcus, please, just do whatever he says!"
My mind raced through every possible outcome.
If I gave David the password and authorized the transfer, we were all dead.
David was not going to leave four living witnesses in this hangar to testify against him.
The moment that money cleared, he would execute every single one of us and burn the hangar to the ground.
"The server has a two-step dual-authorization protocol," I lied loudly, staring directly into David's eyes.
David froze, his finger resting lightly on the trigger.
"What did you say?" David asked, his voice dropping dangerously low.
"The company upgraded its security protocol two weeks ago," I continued, forcing my voice to remain completely steady.
"A transfer of that size requires two separate administrative credentials."
"My password is only the first half."
"The second half requires a physical security token that generates a rolling code every sixty seconds."
David shoved Vance's head aside and marched furiously toward me.
He grabbed the collar of my shirt and jerked me forward.
"Where is the token, Marcus?" David snarled, his eyes bulging with greed.
"It is inside the locked glove compartment of my car," I lied again.
"The car that your men left parked back at the cabin."
David stared at me, searching my face for any sign of deception.
He cursed viciously and turned toward his lead mercenary.
"Take two men, drive back to the cabin, and tear that car apart until you find that token," David ordered.
"And what about them?" the mercenary asked, nodding toward the four of us.
May you like
"Lock them in the storage container at the back of the hangar," David commanded.
"If the token isn't back here by sunrise, shoot all four of them in the head."
