Chapter 7 - The Breach

Gabriel’s blood turned to pure ice in his veins as the radio transmission abruptly cut out into violent static.

He sprinted back to his armored car, throwing himself into the driver's seat and slamming his foot onto the gas pedal.

He drove like a madman through the city, ruthlessly weaving between traffic and completely ignoring every red light.

His mind was consumed by horrific, terrifying images of Mia and Leo completely trapped in that vault.

Back at the penthouse, the heavy steel door of the vault groaned under the incredible pressure of a thermal cutting torch.

Mia huddled in the deepest corner of the small room, desperately covering Leo’s ears to muffle the deafening, hissing sound of the melting metal.

She looked frantically around the small, windowless space for absolutely any weapon she could use to defend them.

She found a heavy, solid gold paperweight resting on a small emergency supply desk.

The massive steel locking mechanism finally gave way with a horrific, metallic shriek.

The heavy door was violently kicked open, revealing three heavily armed mercenaries wearing tactical gas masks.

Mia did not hesitate for a single second, her survival instincts taking completely over.

She hurled the heavy gold paperweight with all of her strength, striking the lead mercenary squarely in the face mask.

The glass shattered instantly, and the man dropped his rifle as he fell backward into the library.

Mia lunged forward, grabbing the dropped assault rifle from the expensive carpet.

She had absolutely no idea how to aim properly, so she simply pulled the trigger and sprayed the doorway with completely blind, deafening gunfire.

The remaining two mercenaries dove for cover, aggressively returning fire into the vault.

A stray bullet violently grazed Mia’s thigh, causing her to cry out in sudden, blinding pain.

She dropped to her knees, dragging the crying baby behind the heavy steel doorframe for cover.

She was entirely out of ammunition and completely out of options.

The mercenaries slowly advanced into the room, their weapons aimed directly at her chest.

Suddenly, a massive, incredibly loud explosion rocked the entire penthouse floor.

Gabriel had blown the main doors entirely off their hinges with a breaching charge.

He stormed into the library like a true demon, his face completely covered in rain and pure, unadulterated fury.

He fired his weapons with ruthless, terrifying precision, dropping both mercenaries before they could even turn around.

Gabriel dropped his guns and ran into the smoking vault, falling to his knees beside Mia.

He pulled her and the baby fiercely into his arms, burying his face in her tangled hair.

“You are safe,” he choked out, completely overwhelmed by the sheer terror of almost losing her.

Mia clung to his neck, sobbing uncontrollably against his tactical vest.

But as the smoke cleared, Gabriel noticed something incredibly wrong with the bodies on the floor.
