Chapter 5 - The Broken Loyalty

Raphael kept his pistol perfectly steady, aiming directly between Gideon’s eyes.

The kitchen of the Boston estate was completely silent except for the heavy rain hitting the windows.

Gideon did not panic, beg for his life, or even attempt to reach for his own weapon.

He simply took another slow, deliberate sip of his dark coffee.

He told Raphael that shooting him would be the greatest mistake of his entire criminal career.

Raphael cocked the hammer of his gun, his eyes burning with an uncontrollable, murderous rage.

He demanded to know the exact location of the woman and the child.

Gideon smiled coldly and placed his ceramic coffee mug gently onto the marble counter.

He confessed that he had manipulated the security footage and the intercepted shipments five years ago.

He admitted that he orchestrated the entire betrayal to force Raphael to push Marin away.

Raphael asked why his most trusted friend would actively destroy his only chance at happiness.

Gideon explained that he was following strict orders from the true king of the Boston underworld.

Raphael tightened his grip on the gun, stating that he was the only king of the North End.

Gideon laughed out loud, a harsh, mocking sound that echoed terribly in the large kitchen.

He revealed that the anonymous caller from five years ago was actually Raphael’s supposedly dead uncle, Vincenzo.

Vincenzo Santoro had faked his death twenty years ago to build a massive, invisible empire from the shadows.

He wanted Raphael to suffer in total isolation so he could eventually swoop in and steal the entire organization.

Raphael felt the ground seemingly drop out from completely underneath his feet.

He realized his entire adult life had been meticulously orchestrated by a cruel ghost.

Gideon calmly reached into his tailored suit jacket and pulled out a digital tracking device.

He placed the glowing tracker on the counter, displaying a blinking red dot located in rural Ohio.

He told Raphael that Vincenzo’s men were breaching Marin’s apartment at this very second.

Gideon said he was giving Raphael the location because he wanted to watch him die trying to save them.

Raphael did not hesitate for a single fraction of a second.

He pulled the trigger, shooting Gideon perfectly in the center of his chest.

Gideon collapsed dead onto the marble floor, his treacherous reign finally over.

Raphael grabbed the glowing tracker and sprinted desperately toward his private helicopter waiting on the roof.
