Chapter 14 - The Miami Interrogation

The neon lights of South Beach blurred violently past the windows of their rented SUV as David drove toward the target.
Marcus Vance’s nightclub, The Velvet Scalpel, sat at the end of a dark, industrial pier surrounded by luxury yachts.
David parked two blocks away, hacking into the club’s security mainframe from the passenger seat to blind the exterior cameras.
Ethan slipped out of the vehicle, dressed entirely in black, carrying his modified medical bag slung over his shoulder.
He bypassed the heavily guarded front entrance, scaling a rusty fire escape to reach the VIP balcony overlooking the ocean.
Two armed guards stood by the glass doors, smoking cigarettes and laughing over the loud, pulsing bass of the music below.
Ethan approached them from the shadows, silently plunging a syringe of the potent paralytic into the first guard's neck.
The man collapsed instantly, his muscles freezing before he could even utter a single warning cry.
The second guard reached for his weapon, but Ethan drove his elbow into the man’s larynx, crushing his airway with surgical precision.
He dragged both men out of sight, swiping a keycard from the unconscious guard to unlock the heavy glass doors.
He stepped into Marcus Vance’s private office, a lavish room decorated with expensive art and illegal ivory.
Marcus was sitting behind a massive mahogany desk, counting stacks of hundred-dollar bills while talking loudly on a burner phone.
He looked up, freezing in absolute terror as Ethan locked the heavy door and casually tossed the security keycard onto the floor.
Marcus reached for a silver revolver hidden under his desk, but Ethan threw a heavy medical text, striking him in the face.
Ethan vaulted over the desk, pinning the wealthy broker to the ground and pressing a scalpel firmly against his carotid artery.
He introduced himself coldly, watching the color completely drain from Marcus's arrogant, bruised face.
Marcus stammered, attempting to offer Ethan millions of dollars to walk away and forget everything he had discovered.
Ethan pressed the blade a fraction of an inch deeper, demanding to know the exact location of the Swiss antigen and Sarah's current whereabouts.
Marcus choked out a laugh, spitting blood onto his expensive rug as he mocked Ethan's desperate loyalty.
He revealed that Sarah was not a victim; she was a fully paid accomplice who had betrayed Ethan from the very beginning.
She had intentionally cut herself during the basement surgery to safely transport the active pathogen back to Apex BioGen.
The syndicate did not want Claire dead anymore; they needed the pure, original antibody that her body had naturally manufactured to fight the tumor.
Marcus smiled wickedly, informing Ethan that the black van had never left Charleston, and the security team at the beach house had already been bought off.

Ethan felt his blood run entirely cold as the horrifying reality of the setup washed over him.
He knocked Marcus unconscious with a heavy blow to the temple, sprinting out of the office to save his wife.
