Chapter 9 - The Confession

Theodore rushed to the jagged edge of the shattered window, looking down at the terrifying drop below.
Julian was completely gone, swallowed by the dark, endless abyss of the city streets.
The howling wind ripped through the luxurious penthouse, scattering expensive documents like worthless confetti.
Theodore slowly lowered his weapon and placed it gently onto the floor, stepping away from the precipice.
He turned back toward the center of the room, his eyes searching frantically for the only thing that mattered.
Gabrielle was sitting on the marble floor, completely unharmed, gently rocking the two crying babies to soothe them.
Theodore collapsed onto his knees beside her, pulling all three of them into a desperate, crushing embrace.
He buried his face into the crook of Gabrielle's neck, finally allowing the hot tears of immense relief to fall.
"It is over, Gabrielle, the nightmare is finally over," Theodore sobbed into her hair.
The police quickly secured the executive penthouse, lowering their weapons and calling for medical personnel.
Victor walked over and placed a reassuring hand on Theodore's shaking shoulder.
"The authorities intercepted Brianna at the private airfield just before she could board her jet," Victor announced with a grim smile.
"She is already in federal custody and singing like a canary to save herself from a lethal injection."
Theodore pulled back and looked deeply into Gabrielle's beautiful, exhausted eyes.
He gently wiped a smudge of dark soot from her cheek, his fingers lingering on her soft skin.
"I will sign the entire company over to a board of directors tomorrow morning," Theodore promised her fiercely.
"I do not care about the money or the legacy anymore, I only care about proving my love to you."
Gabrielle looked down at the tiny, blonde heads of their sleeping sons, her expression softening into pure warmth.
She finally saw the undeniable truth and absolute devotion burning in Theodore's eyes.
She leaned forward and pressed her lips softly against his, sealing a promise of a completely new beginning.
For the first time in an entire year, Theodore felt his shattered soul begin to knit itself back together.
They walked out of the ruined tower hand-in-hand, stepping into the bright, cleansing light of the early morning sun.
A fleet of ambulances and police cruisers surrounded the building, but Theodore paid them absolutely no attention.
He was entirely focused on the beautiful woman beside him and the precious future held securely in her arms.

But as they approached Victor’s waiting vehicle, a sleek black town car pulled up aggressively to the curb.
The tinted window slowly rolled down, revealing a face Theodore thought he would never see again.
