Chapter 7 - The Skyscraper

Theodore and Gabrielle walked through the quiet, predawn streets of downtown Houston.

They approached the massive glass and steel structure of Callahan Tower from the neglected service alley in the back.

Theodore swiped his black emergency keycard through a hidden scanner concealed behind a fake electrical panel.

The heavy steel service door clicked softly and swung open, granting them undetected access to the basement levels.

They slipped inside, moving like ghosts through the dimly lit maintenance corridors.

"The private elevator in the freight bay bypasses the lobby security checkpoints," Theodore whispered, guiding her through the maze of pipes.

They stepped into the sleek, steel elevator, and Theodore pressed the button for the penthouse executive suite.

The ride to the top floor felt like an eternity of terrifying silence.

Gabrielle held the twins tightly against her heart, her beautiful eyes filled with a fierce, maternal determination.

"When this is over, Theodore, things can never go back to the way they were," Gabrielle said softly.

"I know," Theodore replied, gently resting his hand on her shoulder.

"I want to build something entirely new, something based on absolute truth."

The elevator doors chimed and slid open, revealing the luxurious, marble-floored expanse of the executive penthouse.

Julian was sitting confidently behind Theodore's massive mahogany desk, pouring himself a glass of expensive bourbon.

He looked up, completely stunned to see his older brother walking out of the elevator alive.

"How the hell did you get past my security teams?" Julian demanded, dropping his crystal glass onto the desk.

"You can steal my money, Julian, but you can never outsmart me," Theodore said coldly, stepping into the room.

Julian quickly recovered from his shock and smiled a wicked, arrogant smile.

He reached into his tailored suit jacket and pulled out a sleek, black handgun.

"It really doesn't matter how you got up here, Theo, because you are not going back down," Julian sneered.

He aimed the weapon directly at Gabrielle and the two innocent babies strapped to her chest.

"You always were too sentimental to be a ruthless CEO," Julian mocked.

"I am going to put a bullet in your wife, and then I am going to throw your bastards off the balcony."

Theodore did not panic, and he did not raise his hands in surrender.

Instead, he pulled a small, remote detonator from his pocket and held his thumb firmly over the red button.

"If you pull that trigger, Julian, I will blow the foundational support pillars of this entire building," Theodore bluffed with terrifying conviction.

Julian hesitated, his eyes darting nervously toward the small device in Theodore's hand.

That split second of cowardice was all the time Theodore needed to close the distance between them.
