Chapter 4 - The Blackout

Lucas’s personal head of corporate security, a massive former soldier named Marcus, stepped over the broken door.
Marcus tossed a frantic police captain out of the way and walked straight up to the metal table.
He placed a heavy steel key into the handcuffs and unlocked Lucas’s wrist.
"The precinct chief just received a call from the mayor," Marcus announced, glaring at Richard.
"All charges are dropped, effective immediately."
Richard stood up, his face turning pale red with sudden fury.
"You can't do this, we have video evidence!" Richard shouted.
Marcus grabbed Richard by the collar of his expensive suit and slammed him against the concrete wall.
"We hacked the servers ten minutes ago and found the rendering files used to fake the video," Marcus growled.
Lucas rubbed his bruised wrists and walked slowly toward his terrified cousin.
"If you ever go near my wife again, I won't use lawyers to ruin you," Lucas whispered.
He left Richard shaking in the interrogation room and walked out into the precinct lobby.
His private helicopter was already waiting on the roof of a nearby building to take him back to the hospital.
When Lucas arrived at the intensive care unit, the floor was eerily quiet.
He rushed to room 412, where they had taken Emma for emergency surgery.
The room was completely dark and the medical bed was empty.
Panic seized his chest, tightening his lungs until he could barely breathe.
He grabbed a passing nurse by the shoulders, demanding to know where his wife was.
The nurse looked at his face and began to tremble with fear.
"Your mother transferred her twenty minutes ago," the nurse stuttered.
Lucas felt the floor drop out from underneath him.
"Where did she take her?" Lucas roared.
"To the Bennett family's private estate in the countryside," the nurse cried.
Lucas realized Margaret had used the time he was in jail to execute her final plan.
He pulled out his phone and called Marcus.

"Get the tactical team ready," Lucas ordered, his voice cold and devoid of any mercy.
"We are going to war."
