Chapter 6 - The Ultimatum

I stared at Leo’s bruised and swollen face, my finger hovering over the trigger of my gun.
Leo shook his head weakly.
"Do not do it, Dom," Leo coughed, spitting blood onto the concrete floor.
"He will kill us both anyway."
Vincenzo pressed the barrel of his silver revolver directly against Leo’s temple.
"Three seconds, nephew," Vincenzo taunted.
"Three."
I calculated the angles, knowing I could not shoot Vincenzo without risking a spasm that would pull his trigger.
"Two."
I threw my gun across the floor.
It clattered loudly against the concrete, coming to a rest at Vincenzo’s expensive leather shoes.
"Good boy," Vincenzo chuckled, gesturing for his men to grab me.
Four mercenaries tackled me to the ground, binding my hands tightly behind my back with heavy zip ties.
Vincenzo walked over, kicking me viciously in the ribs.
The pain flared through my existing gunshot wound, forcing a sharp groan from my lips.
"You always were too soft for this business, Dominic," Vincenzo spat.
"You let a woman and a bastard child ruin everything."
I glared up at him, memorizing the exact spot on his throat where I would bury a knife.
"Where are they?" Vincenzo demanded, looking around the empty bunker.
"Long gone," I smiled fiercely.
"You will never find them."
Vincenzo sighed in exaggerated disappointment.
"That is a shame."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a remote detonator.
"Because I found Julian Vance’s little escape tunnel blueprints an hour ago."
My blood ran ice cold as he tapped the plastic button.
"I had my men rig the exit hatch with C4."
He smiled, a dark, hollow expression that looked like death itself.
"Shall we see how loud they scream?"
May you like
Vincenzo’s thumb pressed down hard on the red button.
A muffled, earth-shaking boom vibrated through the floorboards beneath us.
