Chapter 1 - The Extraction

The city bus rattled violently as it navigated the crowded Manhattan streets.
Every single bump sent an agonizing jolt of pain through my fresh C-section incision.
I held my sleeping newborn tightly against my chest to protect him from the harsh vibrations.
Tears of physical agony and profound emotional betrayal threatened to spill from my eyes.
I stared out the smudged window and processed the horrifying reality of my shattered marriage.
Dominic had not just abandoned me with a handful of cheap bus fare.
He had completely discarded me so he could take his arrogant family to a luxurious lunch.
My cell phone suddenly vibrated in my coat pocket and broke me out of my dark thoughts.
The screen displayed a highly encrypted tracking link sent directly by my father's head of security.
Less than three minutes later, the public bus abruptly screeched to a halt in the middle of a busy intersection.
Four massive black tactical vehicles had perfectly boxed the bus in.
They successfully blocked civilian traffic in absolutely every direction.
The bus driver stood up in a sudden panic.
The heavy glass doors of the bus were already being forced open from the outside.
Six imposing men wearing tailored suits and discreet earpieces boarded the bus with terrifying precision.
The lead security agent immediately locked eyes with me.
He walked down the narrow aisle and bowed his head in a gesture of absolute respect.
He gently took the heavy diaper bag from my trembling hands.
He then respectfully cleared a secure path for me to exit the vehicle.
The other passengers watched in stunned and breathless silence.
I was escorted off the filthy bus like a foreign dignitary being rescued from a war zone.
They carefully helped me into the luxurious leather seat of the lead armored transport vehicle.
My father, Charles Brooks, was waiting for me in the spacious back seat.
He wore a deeply terrifying and furious expression on his aged face.
He did not offer me any empty platitudes or useless apologies.
He simply wrapped a warm and incredibly expensive cashmere blanket around my shivering shoulders.
I leaned against the soft leather seat and finally allowed myself to breathe.
The heavily armed convoy sped away from my miserable old life.
My father poured me a glass of warm water from a crystal pitcher.
He then handed me a thick and securely sealed legal folder.
He explained that his private intelligence team had been closely monitoring Dominic for months.
He gently instructed me to open the folder and look closely at the financial documents hidden inside.
I stared at the printed paperwork with growing horror.
I slowly realized that Dominic's supposedly revolutionary technology company was completely bankrupt.
My treacherous husband had secretly forged my signature to secure a fifty million dollar illegal loan.

The loan was not from a legitimate bank.
It was provided by a notoriously violent criminal syndicate that was now actively hunting my new family.
