Chapter 8 - The Federal Intervention

The federal agents instantly surrounded my husband and his mother with tactical rifles raised. A stern woman wearing an FBI windbreaker stepped forward and ordered them to freeze. My husband tried to crawl toward his dropped shotgun, but an agent planted a heavy boot on his back. The cold steel of federal handcuffs clicked securely around his wrists. His mother screamed hysterically, claiming they were innocent victims of a car crash. The lead agent ignored her lies and directed a team of field medics to my side. I sobbed in absolute relief as professional hands gently examined my horrific burns. I pointed a shaking finger toward the wrecked car and told them David was inside with the evidence. Agents carefully extracted David from the vehicle and secured the black USB drive. The female agent knelt beside me and gently touched my shoulder. She explained that the hospital nurse who helped me escape had contacted her brother. Her brother was an FBI special agent who specialized in public corruption. They had been tracking Victoria's illegal wiretaps and intercepted the location of her car. They arrived exactly in time to stop my husband from committing a double murder. I looked over at my husband, who was now weeping pathetically on the asphalt. He begged the agents for mercy, completely stripped of his terrifying garage persona. The agent told him he was facing multiple life sentences for conspiracy, torture, and attempted murder. They loaded him and his wicked mother into the back of an armored transport van. I finally felt a massive, suffocating weight lift entirely off my chest. The medics lifted me onto a stretcher and placed me into a waiting ambulance. As the doors closed, a sudden, sharp pain ripped through my lower abdomen. It was not the pain of my burns. My water had just broken, and the baby was coming two months early.
