Chapter 4 - The Unlikely Ally

The lead surgeon looked at Julian in absolute, horrified shock.

"Sir, operating on a pregnant woman without anesthesia is barbaric and highly illegal," the doctor stammered.

Julian slowly reached into the inner pocket of his tailored suit jacket.

He casually placed a thick, banded stack of hundred-dollar bills directly onto the sterile medical tray.

"My wife has severe, documented allergies to all forms of pain medication," Julian lied smoothly.

"Do the procedure right now, or I will buy this entire clinic and fire everyone in it."

The surgeon looked nervously at the cash, then down at his trembling hands.

He quietly signaled the terrified nurses to begin preparing the surgical instruments.

I thrashed wildly against the thick leather restraints binding my wrists to the metal bed.

Another agonizing, body-shattering contraction tore through my abdomen.

I screamed for help at the top of my lungs, but the walls of the VIP wing were completely soundproof.

Chloe took a confident step closer to my bed.

She gently and mockingly stroked my sweat-drenched hair.

Julian briefly turned his back to answer an urgent phone call from his father.

"Make sure the offshore transfer is totally complete before the baby is out," Julian barked impatiently into his phone.

As soon as he turned away, Chloe’s sweet, innocent smile completely vanished.

Her eyes instantly hardened into dark, desperate, calculating slits.

She leaned down until her trembling lips were practically touching my ear.

"Stop fighting the leather restraints," Chloe whispered with sudden urgency.

"He fully plans to kill us both once he has physical custody of the child."

I stopped thrashing immediately and stared up at her in profound disbelief.

Chloe subtly slipped a small, razor-sharp surgical scalpel directly into my right hand.

"He actually thinks I'm just a dumb, naive twenty-two-year-old," she muttered bitterly.

"He doesn't know I secretly read the master trust fund documents in his office."

"The inheritance only activates if the biological mother tragically dies during childbirth."

Chloe quickly plunged a small plastic syringe into my plastic IV line.

"This is just a mild muscle relaxant to buy us about ten minutes of time," she said quickly.

"When I scream, you cut the leather straps as fast as you can."

Julian forcefully ended his phone call and turned back toward the hospital bed.

He looked intensely annoyed by the medical delay.

"Is the brat ready to come out of her yet?" he demanded cruelly.

Suddenly, Chloe clutched her own flat stomach and let out a blood-curdling scream.

She collapsed violently onto the sterile floor, aggressively convulsing and foaming at the mouth.

Julian dropped his expensive phone in absolute shock.

The surgeon and the nurses instantly rushed to Chloe's side to stabilize her.

I gripped the stolen scalpel tightly in my sweaty palm.

I began to saw frantically at the thick leather straps binding my right wrist to the rails.
