Chapter 6 - The Boathouse Ambush

Vincent dropped silently behind a massive, snow-covered oak tree.
He counted six heavily armed mercenaries sweeping the perimeter of the boathouse with flashlights.
They were professional, moving with tactical precision that regular thugs didn't possess.
Charles Bellamy was standing on the wooden dock, shivering in his suit, barking orders at the men.
“Tear the floorboards up if you have to!” Charles yelled into the freezing wind.
“Find those ledgers before Moretti realizes where we are!”
Vincent knew he was completely outgunned.
He only had his standard handgun and two spare magazines.
But he also knew every single inch of this property better than anyone else alive.
He crept silently through the deep snow, moving toward the electrical breaker box hidden on the side of the building.
He waited until a guard walked past, then quickly slashed the main power cables with his pocketknife.
The floodlights surrounding the boathouse instantly died, plunging the area into total darkness.
“Who cut the power?!” Charles screamed in pure panic.
Vincent didn't hesitate.
He moved rapidly through the shadows, taking down the first guard with a brutal strike to the throat.
He caught the man’s falling rifle before it hit the ground, silently securing a heavier weapon.
He moved to the next target, using the darkness as his perfect cover.
Two more guards dropped silently into the snow before the others realized they were under attack.
“We are being hunted!” a mercenary shouted, firing blindly into the dark woods.
Vincent ducked behind a stack of rusted oil drums as bullets shredded the wood above his head.
He returned fire with lethal accuracy, dropping two more shooters instantly.
The sudden, brutal efficiency of the counterattack broke the mercenaries' morale.
The last remaining guard panicked and ran toward the SUVs, completely abandoning Charles.
Charles stood alone on the dock, entirely exposed and visibly trembling.
Vincent stepped out of the shadows, aiming the stolen rifle directly at the lawyer's chest.
“It is over, Charles,” Vincent stated coldly, walking slowly toward the dock.
Charles backed away until his heels hit the very edge of the wooden planks.
“You don't understand, Vince!” Charles pleaded, his voice cracking hysterically.
“The Romanos threatened to kill my entire family if I didn't help them steal your empire!”
“So you helped them murder my wife instead?” Vincent asked, his voice devoid of any mercy.
Charles shook his head frantically, holding his hands up in surrender.
“I didn't kill her, Vince, I swear to God!” Charles cried out.
“We locked her in the abandoned mining tunnels up north, she might still be alive!”
Vincent’s heart completely stopped beating inside his chest.
Sofia could still be alive.

Before Vincent could ask for the exact location, a massive spotlight suddenly illuminated the dock.
A police helicopter hovered silently above the river, catching them both in its blinding beam.
