Chapter 2 - The Missing Files

Vincent slowly turned around to face the family attorney.
The temperature in the ballroom seemed to drop ten degrees.
Charles Bellamy adjusted his silk tie, trying to maintain his professional composure.
“Vincent, this is absurd,” Charles said, forcing a nervous chuckle.
“You are going to take the word of a hysterical maid over your most trusted advisor?”
Vincent didn't laugh.
He walked back to the marble table and picked up the thick stack of engagement papers.
He began flipping through the legal documents, his dark eyes scanning the fine print.
“What is the family continuity trust, Charles?” Vincent asked coldly.
Isabella took a sudden step backward, her face turning incredibly pale.
“It is a standard legal precaution, Vince,” Charles explained quickly.
“It ensures that if anything happens to you, Isabella immediately gains full control of the Moretti holdings.”
Vincent stopped flipping the pages.
He looked directly at his younger cousin, Dominic.
“Did you know about this clause, Dom?” Vincent asked.
Dominic shook his head firmly, looking equally confused and angry.
“I have never seen those papers in my life, Vince,” Dominic swore.
Vincent slammed the entire folder down onto the marble table.
“Charles, if I sign this, I am essentially signing over my entire empire to Isabella,” Vincent stated.
“And suddenly, a phone appears with my dead wife warning me not to trust you.”
Charles raised his hands in a defensive gesture.
“It is a fake recording, Vincent!” Charles argued desperately.
“Someone is trying to manipulate you into breaking this engagement.”
Vincent didn't believe him for a single second.
He turned back to Grace.
“I need a charger for this phone immediately,” Vincent commanded.
Before Grace could move, the ballroom doors swung open.
A heavily armed security guard rushed into the room, looking frantic.
“Mr. Moretti, we have a massive problem,” the guard announced loudly.
“The main security server in the basement has just been completely wiped clean.”
Vincent’s blood ran completely cold.
Someone was trying to destroy the remaining evidence before he could find it.
Vincent grabbed the dead phone from Emily’s small hands and looked at Dominic.
“Lock down the entire estate,” Vincent ordered his cousin.
“No one leaves this property until I hear the rest of this recording.”

Dominic nodded and reached for his radio.
Suddenly, a gunshot echoed through the mansion.
