Chapter 10 - A New Family

Elena stumbled backward in absolute shock, her gun completely wavering as Dominic's devastating revelation destroyed her leverage.
She had spent years hiding in the shadows, totally unaware that the man she thought she fooled had been playing a much longer, darker game.
"You raised your worst enemy's son for four years?" Elena gasped, her voice trembling with terrified disbelief.
"I raised him because he is an innocent child who did not deserve a monster for a mother," Dominic replied with fierce, unwavering conviction.
Suddenly, the massive metal doors of the warehouse violently crashed open, and heavily armed federal agents flooded the building.
Dominic had not just summoned his loyal soldiers; he had strategically leaked the Moretti location to a federal task force he secretly funded.
The agents immediately swarmed Elena, completely disarming her and slamming her aggressively onto the cold concrete floor.
Moretti and the rest of his corrupt men were dragged out of the building in heavy iron chains, their criminal empire entirely dismantled in a single night.
I completely ignored the chaotic arrests, dropping to my knees and hugging Tyler so tightly that I wept tears of absolute relief.
Dominic walked over and knelt gently beside us, his strong hand resting warmly and protectively on my trembling shoulder.
Three weeks later, the terrifying nightmares of that night had finally begun to fade into distant memories.
Tyler had successfully undergone his life-saving heart surgery, completely paid for by an anonymous, extremely generous donation from Dominic Vale.
I was no longer just the hired nanny; I had become an irreplaceable fixture in the Vale household, sharing quiet dinners and lingering touches with a man who had sworn to protect us forever.
Noah was sitting happily on the plush living room rug, beautifully drawing a picture of a bright, colorful house with three distinct stick figures.
He looked up at me with his enormous dark eyes, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his tiny face for the very first time.
"Look at our house, Mom," Noah whispered softly, entirely healing the broken pieces of all our damaged hearts in a single breath.
I smiled through happy tears, finally feeling like I belonged to a real, loving family.
A week later, Mrs. Hargrove's replacement handed me a pristine white envelope that had arrived in the morning mail without any return address.

I slid my finger under the paper flap and pulled out a single, glossy photograph that made my blood run completely cold.
It was a picture of my own father, who supposedly died ten years ago in a factory accident, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Dominic Vale.
