Chapter 9 - The Race for Life

Daniel gasped desperately for air, his vision violently tunneling as Victor’s iron grip completely crushed his windpipe.

Despite the blinding agony, Daniel fiercely held onto the protective metal case containing the vital blue antidote.

Chloe attempted to fire at Victor, but Sarah aggressively tackled the security chief to the hard tile floor, completely knocking the gun away.

"I will never let you save that old monster, Chloe!" Sarah screamed wildly, grappling viciously with the highly trained bodyguard.

Daniel used his last ounce of remaining strength to violently drive his knee directly into Victor's failing, diseased chest.

Victor howled in sudden, agonizing pain, heavily stumbling backward and releasing his deadly grip on Daniel’s bruised throat.

Coughing violently, Daniel scrambled frantically toward Arthur’s life-support bed, tearing open the protective metal case with shaking fingers.

He quickly loaded the glowing blue serum into a sterile medical syringe, his eyes firmly locked on his grandfather's rapidly dropping heart rate monitor.

Victor recovered remarkably fast, pulling a hidden, compact firearm from his tailored suit jacket and aiming it directly at Daniel’s back.

"Put the needle down immediately, Daniel, or I will gladly blow your spine entirely to pieces," Victor promised with lethal intent.

Daniel completely ignored his father's deadly threat, violently plunging the heavy syringe directly into Arthur’s chest and injecting the entire cure.

Victor roared in absolute fury and firmly pulled the trigger, but a sudden, massive weight violently slammed into him from the side.

Chloe had successfully thrown Sarah off and bravely tackled Victor, causing his bullet to shatter a highly pressurized oxygen tank instead.

The heavy tank exploded with deafening, concussive force, violently knocking everyone in the sterile room completely off their feet.

Thick, white smoke rapidly filled the surgical theater, creating a scene of absolute, blinding chaos.

Daniel groaned in severe pain, pushing heavy medical debris off his legs as he desperately checked Arthur's vital signs on the cracked monitor.

The heart rate monitor suddenly stabilized, emitting a steady, beautiful beep that signaled the antidote was actively working.

Arthur Sterling suddenly gasped incredibly loudly, his storm-gray eyes snapping wide open as life rushed violently back into his veins.

Before Daniel could even celebrate the massive victory, a cold, heavy metal barrel was pressed firmly against the back of his head.

Victor stood bleeding heavily from a nasty head wound, holding his weapon entirely steady despite his failing heart.

"You just ruined my only chance at survival, so now I am going to end your miserable life," Victor wheezed violently.

Arthur miraculously reached up with unbelievable speed, grabbing Victor’s wrist and violently twisting it until the heavy gun dropped to the floor.

Victor laughed psychotically, pulling a small, glowing red detonator entirely out of his torn suit pocket.

"I wired this entire hospital with military-grade C4, and you have exactly three minutes before we all burn together," Victor sneered triumphantly as he hit the button.
