Chapter 7 - The Desperate Trade

Victor’s cruel, hollow laughter echoed terribly through the trapped, red-lit laboratory, completely chilling Daniel to his very core.

Sarah covered her mouth to stifle a terrified sob, completely traumatized by the sudden, haunting appearance of her abusive ex-husband.

"You are absolutely insane if you think I will ever give you control of this company, Victor," Daniel yelled defiantly at the giant screen.

"You do not actually have a choice, my boy, because Arthur’s heart is failing rapidly as we speak," Victor mocked softly.

Daniel noticed a strange, complex surgical diagram briefly displayed on the hospital monitors visible in the background of the video feed.

Because of his extensive clerk training at that exact hospital, Daniel instantly recognized the specific pre-operative layout.

"He does not just want the company, he is actively prepping Arthur for a major organ extraction," Daniel realized aloud with absolute horror.

"My own heart is completely failing, Daniel, and your grandfather is the only perfect genetic match left alive," Victor confessed without an ounce of shame.

Victor abruptly cut the video feed, leaving the massive monitor completely black and the vault sealed tight as a tomb.

"The vault is actively pumping out our oxygen, we will completely suffocate in less than ten minutes," Chloe warned, checking her tactical watch.

Daniel refused to die in a metal box while a monster brutally harvested his grandfather’s heart for his own twisted survival.

He looked desperately around the sterile room, his eyes locking onto a massive, heavily bolted ventilation shaft near the ceiling.

"Chloe, can you manually short-circuit the internal locking mechanism from that power junction box?" Daniel asked rapidly, forming a desperate plan.

"I can overload the grid, but it might fatally electrocute anyone touching the metal door when it blows," Chloe calculated grimly.

"Just do it, I will pry the vent open using the heavy medical centrifuge," Daniel ordered, lifting the heavy machine with pure adrenaline.

Chloe violently severed the thick power cables, smashing them directly against the vault’s main electronic control board in a shower of massive sparks.

The entire laboratory plunged into absolute darkness before the emergency backup battery forcefully popped the vault door open just an inch.

Daniel and Chloe worked together in the dark to pry the heavy steel doors wide enough to squeeze their bodies through.

They rushed Sarah safely out of the suffocating room, gasping deeply for the fresh, damp air of the outer corridor.

"Victor is operating out of the West Wing surgical theater, I know exactly how to bypass their security," Daniel stated with fierce determination.

They sprinted back to the armored SUV, racing desperately through the chaotic city streets toward the heavily guarded hospital.

They silently breached the building through the underground laundry chutes, completely avoiding Victor’s heavily armed mercenaries stationed in the lobby.

As they crept down the dark, abandoned surgical hallway, Daniel heard the distinct, sickening sound of a bone saw spinning to life.

Daniel violently kicked open the double doors of the operating room, fully prepared to kill his own father to save Arthur.

He froze completely in his tracks, dropping the metal pipe he was carrying as absolute shock paralyzed his entire body.

Victor was not the one holding the deadly surgical saw over Arthur's chest.

It was Sarah, standing completely calmly with the spinning blade in her scarred hands, looking directly at her horrified son.
