Chapter 4 - The Hidden Microchip

Daniel slammed on the brakes and pulled the stolen van into an abandoned warehouse district.
He climbed into the back seat and frantically checked Olivia's fading pulse.
Her airway was beginning to swell shut from a delayed allergic reaction to the military drug.
"She needs an antidote immediately or she will not survive the hour," Daniel muttered to himself.
Emma pulled the sealed evidence envelope from her pocket and handed it to Daniel.
"Daddy always breaks his toys before he fixes them," Emma said in a hauntingly calm voice.
Daniel tore the envelope open and carefully examined the empty plastic syringe under the van's dome light.
He noticed a strange, metallic irregularity hidden deep inside the rubber plunger.
He used his pocket knife to slice the rubber open, revealing a tiny, waterproof microchip.
This was not just a medical syringe, but rather a highly sophisticated data storage device.
Daniel pulled a burner phone from his tactical vest and inserted the microchip into the memory slot.
The screen immediately flooded with heavily encrypted medical files and complex genetic charts.
He scrolled past dozens of disturbing photographs showing children locked in sterile laboratory environments.
He finally found a file labeled with Emma and Olivia's exact birth dates.
Daniel's breath caught in his throat as he read the shocking truth written in plain text.
Michael Carter was not their biological father at all.
The girls were cloned genetic specimens created exclusively for illegal organ harvesting.
Michael had poisoned Olivia merely to test the efficacy of a new paralytic harvesting agent.
Daniel found a secondary document detailing the chemical composition of the specific antidote.
The antidote was incredibly rare, but the file listed a private veterinary clinic that secretly stocked it.
The clinic was located exactly three miles away on the edge of the city limits.
Daniel threw the phone onto the passenger seat and slammed the van into gear.
He drove recklessly through the empty industrial streets, desperate to save the dying child.
They crashed through the chain-link gate of the veterinary clinic just as the sun began to set.
Daniel carried Olivia's limp body to the front door and kicked the glass completely shatter.
As he stepped inside the dark clinic, the security lights flickered on brightly.
