Chapter 5 - The Attorney's Confession

I left Rosa in the care of my surviving men and drove straight to Daniel Mercer's private residence.

I kicked the heavy oak door of his suburban mansion open without hesitation.

Daniel was sitting calmly in his leather armchair by the fireplace, drinking a glass of scotch.

He did not look surprised to see me standing there with a loaded gun.

"You found the payment trail," Daniel said quietly, taking a slow sip of his drink.

I pressed the barrel of my gun directly against his forehead.

I demanded to know where they had taken Elena and Mia.

Daniel did not flinch, his eyes filled with a strange mixture of regret and arrogance.

He explained that eight years ago, the syndicate commission decided Elena was a fatal weakness to my leadership.

They ordered him to fake her death and keep her hidden so I would remain a ruthless boss.

He admitted to forging the crash photos and paying the doctors to keep her sedated.

I cocked the hammer of my pistol, my finger tightening on the trigger.

I asked him who had ordered the tactical team to take my daughter tonight.

Daniel sighed, stating that the situation had finally grown out of his control.

He told me the medical facility was called the Blackwood Clinic on the edge of the city.

He opened his mouth to tell me the name of the man who now controlled the mercenaries.

The glass window behind Daniel suddenly shattered into a thousand tiny pieces.

A high-caliber sniper bullet pierced Daniel's chest, throwing his body backward onto the rug.

He choked on his own blood, his eyes wide with shock as he stared at the ceiling.

I dove behind the heavy leather sofa as a second bullet tore through the air.

Daniel took his final breath, taking the name of the true mastermind to his grave.
