Chapter 7 - The Bank Vault

The scarred man smiled, his finger tightening slowly on the trigger of his rifle.

Without a second of hesitation, Annie threw a heavy glass bottle she had found in the trash directly at his face.

The bottle shattered against his forehead, causing his shot to go wildly into the brick wall.

I lunged forward and tackled the massive man to the ground, fighting with everything I had.

I managed to wrench the heavy rifle from his hands and struck him across the jaw with the wooden stock.

He collapsed into the dirt, completely unconscious.

I grabbed the keys to his unmarked sedan from his pocket and yelled for Annie and the boys to get in.

We sped away down the highway, heading straight for the financial district in the city.

The safety deposit key belonged to a highly secure, private bank that Lauren had used before we were married.

We arrived at the towering glass building just as the morning commuters filled the sidewalks.

I told Annie to wait in the car with the boys, keeping the engine running and the doors locked.

I walked into the bank, using my old driver's license to bypass the initial security check.

The bank manager led me down into the subterranean vault, his face perfectly neutral.

I unlocked Lauren's box with trembling hands and pulled out a thick stack of printed documents.

The files contained absolute proof of the illegal drone sales, complete with the signatures of the entire corporate board.

It was enough evidence to send every single one of them to federal prison for treason.

I shoved the documents into my jacket and turned to leave the silent vault.

The bank manager suddenly blocked the heavy steel doorway, holding a silent alarm trigger in his hand.

He smiled nervously and apologized, stating that Marcus had offered him five million dollars to make a phone call.

The heavy steel doors of the vault began to slide shut, locking me completely inside.
