Chapter 5 - The Glass Cage

I threw my body over the twins just as a barrage of bullets tore through the metal vent.

The deafening sound of gunfire echoed through the tight space, showering us with sharp shrapnel.

I pushed Annie and the boys forward, urging them to crawl faster toward the basement drop point.

We reached the end of the shaft and slid down a steep chute into the underground parking garage.

The emergency backup lights cast eerie, flickering shadows across my collection of luxury cars.

I ran toward the heavy steel doors of my armored SUV, pulling the keys from my pocket.

Just as I hit the unlock button, the garage's massive glass observation window shattered above us.

Marcus stood on the upper catwalk, firing a handgun down at the concrete floor.

He shouted that my billions of dollars couldn't save me now, because the company board had authorized this hit.

Lauren had discovered that Morrison Dynamics was secretly selling military drones to foreign terrorists.

The entire board of directors was complicit, and they had ordered her death to protect their profits.

I shoved the boys into the backseat of the SUV and told Annie to get in the driver's seat.

I grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall and hurled it directly at Marcus on the catwalk.

The heavy metal cylinder caught him in the chest, knocking him backward over the railing.

He crashed onto the hood of a sports car with a sickening crunch.

I jumped into the passenger seat of the SUV and yelled for Annie to start the engine.

She slammed her foot on the gas pedal, the massive tires screaming on the polished concrete.

The reinforced steel garage doors were locked, but the SUV weighed nearly four tons.

We smashed through the heavy doors, tearing the metal frame entirely out of the brick wall.

We burst out into the freezing night air, tearing down the winding driveway toward the main gates.

I looked in the rearview mirror and felt my heart completely stop.

Three black tactical vehicles were already speeding up the driveway, blocking our only exit to the main road.
