Chapter 2 - The Erased Footage

My entire world seemed to stop spinning in that exact moment.
"What man in the closet, Justin?" I asked, dropping to my knees so I was at his eye level.
Jordan grabbed his brother's hand, looking terrified of my sudden intensity.
"The man who visits when the other nannies go to sleep," Jordan answered softly.
I stood up immediately, rushing past them into the twins' bedroom without another word.
I threw open the doors to their massive walk-in closet, shoving aside tiny jackets and boxes of toys.
I ran my hands desperately along the back wall, searching for anything out of the ordinary.
My fingers brushed against a small, unnatural seam in the expensive wood paneling.
I pressed my weight against it, and a hidden access panel clicked open to reveal a dark, narrow maintenance shaft.
Someone had been using the architectural blueprints of my own home against me.
I pulled out my phone, immediately opening the master control application for the estate's million-dollar security system.
My thumbs flew across the screen, pulling up the motion sensor logs for the past fourteen months.
The screen displayed a terrifying string of red errors.
Every single security log for the second-floor hallway had been manually deleted by someone with top-tier administrative access.
Only two people in the entire world had that level of access to my home network.
One was me, and the other was my chief operating officer at Morrison Dynamics.
I felt a sickening knot form in my stomach as the reality of the situation crashed over me.
I quickly switched the application from the deleted logs to the live camera feeds.
I clicked on the camera hidden in the hallway chandelier, hoping to see Annie and the boys safely waiting for me.

Instead, the live feed showed a tall, imposing figure dressed in a sharp black suit standing directly behind Annie.
Before I could even shout a warning, the man on the screen raised his hand and clamped a cloth over the housekeeper's mouth.
