Chapter 8 - The Roof on Fire

Victor fought through the agonizing pain radiating down his spine.

He watched his ruthless father pull the hammer back on the silver revolver.

Victor refused to let the woman he loved die in this glass cage.

He kicked the heavy mahogany desk upward with all his remaining strength.

The desk flipped over, violently knocking his father backward onto the floor.

Victor grabbed a fallen guard's discarded rifle and fired three rapid shots into the ceiling.

He grabbed Sadi by the waist and pulled her out of the shattered office door.

Alarms blared loudly as they sprinted across the upper balcony of the casino.

Bullets sparked against the metal railings as the guards recovered from the sudden chaos.

Victor kicked open the heavy fire exit door and dragged Sadi into the dark stairwell.

They climbed the concrete stairs desperately, their lungs burning for oxygen.

They finally burst out onto the flat, tar-covered roof of the massive building.

The cold city wind whipped Sadi's crimson dress furiously around her legs.

Victor spotted a private cartel helicopter idling on the helipad near the edge of the roof.

He planned to hijack the aircraft and fly them entirely out of the state.

They sprinted toward the spinning rotors, keeping their heads incredibly low.

The pilot spotted them and immediately raised his hands in panicked surrender.

Victor pushed Sadi into the back seat of the luxurious leather cabin.

He climbed into the pilot's seat and grabbed the heavy flight controls.

Just as the helicopter began to lift off the ground, the cockpit door violently shattered.

Paul stood on the helipad, holding a heavy sniper rifle aimed directly at the aircraft.

Paul had anticipated their escape route and waited patiently in the freezing rain.

Paul smiled his sickeningly familiar smile and aimed the laser sight precisely at Sadi's chest.

Victor realized he had absolutely no time to maneuver the heavy helicopter out of range.
