Chapter 1 - The Price of Blood

Victor did not raise his voice.
He simply pulled the heavy silver pistol from his shoulder holster.
The deafening crack of the gunshot echoed off the cold concrete walls.
Leyon dropped to the floor with a shattered kneecap.
The heavy enforcer screamed in absolute agony.
The other two men instantly froze in sheer terror.
They dropped their hands from Sadi and backed away slowly.
Victor walked around his reclaimed mahogany desk with slow, deliberate steps.
His dark eyes never left the broken woman lying on the floor.
He holstered his weapon and knelt beside her on the dirty concrete.
He reached out gently to brush the matted brown hair away from her bruised face.
Sadi flinched violently at his touch.
She gasped for air and scrambled backward like a terrified animal.
Victor held up his hands to show they were empty.
He promised her that no one in this room would ever hurt her again.
Sadi stared at him through her swollen, purple eye.
She did not look like a helpless victim anymore.
Her good eye burned with a sudden, fierce hatred.
Before Victor could react, Sadi lunged forward with terrifying speed.
She pulled a sharp, silver art restorer's scalpel from her torn yellow sweater.
She pressed the deadly blade directly against the pulsing vein in Victor's throat.
The entire warehouse went dead silent.
Victor stared down at the beautiful, broken woman holding his life in her hands.
He finally understood that Arthur had not been the dangerous one in the Bennett family.
Sadi pressed the blade harder against his skin.
She whispered that if his men moved a single muscle, she would paint the floor with his blood.
Victor felt a dark, thrilling smirk pull at the corner of his lips.
He was suddenly very glad he had ordered her brought to him alive.

Suddenly, the heavy metal doors of the warehouse blew entirely off their hinges.
A blinding flashbang grenade rolled across the concrete floor and detonated at their feet.
