Chapter 7 - The Bluff Exposed

The deafening silence in the chapel was heavier than the explosion we were all expecting.
Jonathan looked down at his chest, frantically pressing the trigger mechanism in his hand.
The green light continued to glow peacefully.
I let out a long, shaky breath and stepped forward to explain his failure.
I told him that his head of security was not nearly as loyal as he believed.
I had contacted the security chief three days ago and offered him immunity and a federal bounty to disable the explosives before the ceremony.
The bomb vest was entirely deactivated, nothing more than useless wiring and plastic.
Jonathan looked at the security chief, who simply shrugged and kept his weapon trained on the groom.
Without the threat of the bomb, the federal agents immediately sprang into action.
They tackled the nearest armed guards, sparking a chaotic brawl on the altar.
Guests shrieked and ducked under the wooden pews as fists and tactical flashlights collided.
I grabbed my attorney by the arm and helped her drag Evelyn behind the heavy marble pulpit for cover.
Evelyn was pale and losing blood, but she managed a weak, victorious smile.
Rosalind realized she had lost control of the situation and sprinted toward the side exit.
I was not going to let the woman who orchestrated my misery slip away in the chaos.
I kicked off my heavy bridal heels and sprinted down the aisle after her.
Rosalind pushed through the heavy oak doors, running desperately into the church's ancient graveyard.

I tackled her from behind, sending us both crashing into the damp earth.
She rolled over, her designer dress covered in mud, and pulled a small, silver derringer from her purse.
