Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Betrayal

The horrifying truth hit me like a physical blow to the chest as I looked closely at the federal agent.

His service weapon was no longer pointed at Adrian, but was instead slowly turning directly toward my own ribs.

The agent offered a cold, apologetic smile before firmly pressing the gun against my side.

He calmly informed the terrified crowd that this was now a classified federal operation and everyone needed to remain seated.

Adrian laughed loudly, praising the corrupt agent for his flawless performance and absolute loyalty to the Vale payroll.

I realized that every piece of evidence I had entrusted to this man over the past month had been secretly shared with Adrian.

Elena cried out in frustration, attempting to rush the altar to save me from the double-cross.

One of the mercenaries brutally struck Elena with the butt of his rifle, sending her crashing heavily to the marble floor.

Celeste applauded elegantly from the front row, clearly delighted by the violent subjugation of her enemies.

Adrian demanded the silver drive again, pressing his gun harder into my weeping sister's neck to force my compliance.

I had absolutely no choice left, so I dropped the silver USB drive directly into his outstretched palm.

He snatched it greedily, pulling a sleek black laptop from the podium where the priest had been standing moments before.

He inserted the drive with a victorious flourish, eager to permanently delete the only copy of his massive financial crimes.

He typed in his administrative password, bragging that he was completely untouchable and always one step ahead.

I watched his face closely, waiting for the exact moment his arrogant confidence shattered into a million pieces.

The screen of his laptop suddenly flickered violently, turning a bright, blinding shade of crimson red.

A complex string of automated code began scrolling rapidly across the screen, moving far too fast for him to cancel.

Adrian frantically pounded his fingers against the keyboard, his face draining of blood as the system locked him out entirely.

He looked up at me with absolute horror, realizing the drive I handed him did not contain the evidence files.

I smiled through my tears and whispered that he had just uploaded a highly aggressive, self-replicating financial worm directly into his own mainframe.
