Chapter 8 - The Financial Trap Springs

Harper backed away from me, tears of rage and panic streaming down her face. "You set me up! You faked being sick to ruin my life!"
"You ruined your own life the second you treated me like a mark," I said coldly. "Did you really think I didn't know about the tax lien, Harper? You didn't have a bad accountant. You committed wire fraud three years ago, and I bailed you out because I loved my sister. I thought you could change."
I stopped a few feet away from her, leaning on my cane. "But when I woke up from surgery and heard you planning to erase my existence so you could buy designer bags and take trips to Cabo, I realized you were a lost cause."
"I'm your family!" Harper shrieked, looking wildly around the room for support. She found none. My former colleagues were looking at her like she was dirt on their shoes.
"Family doesn't lock family in a substandard nursing home to steal their life savings," I replied calmly. "You were going to throw me away. So, I threw you away first."
Marcus, who was currently being handcuffed by Detective Miller by the door, yelled out. "She put me up to it! It was all her idea! She forged the notary stamp!"

Harper spun around. "Shut up, Marcus!"
"Oh, the notary," I smiled, a cold, sharp expression. "We found her, too. She flipped on you in about five minutes when the Attorney General threatened her with federal prison time."
