Chapter 7 - The Philanthropy Reveal

"Aunt Evelyn, what is this?" Harper stammered, her voice pitching up in panic. "I'm just trying to help you! You signed the Power of Attorney!"
"I signed a duress signature," I corrected her, walking toward her with slow, deliberate steps. "A signature recognized by the state as invalid. Which means your little real estate broker, Marcus, just attempted to process fraudulent property transfers."
At the mention of his name, Marcus tried to slip quietly out the front door.
He didn't make it. Detective Miller and two uniformed officers were blocking the exit.
Harper was hyperventilating now. "The trust... I control the trust! You're crazy! I'm calling my lawyer!"
"You don't control anything, Harper," a new voice boomed. My estate attorney, David, stepped into the center of the room. "Because as of 4:00 PM yesterday, Evelyn Vance completely dissolved the 1.4 million dollar trust you were attempting to steal."
Harper gasped, clutching her chest. "Dissolved? W-where did the money go?"

David smiled warmly. "Mrs. Vance has transferred the entire sum, including the deed to this condo, to the Tri-State Veterans Housing Foundation. The paperwork is ironclad. The money is gone, Harper. You didn't even get a dime."
The socialite friends Harper had invited were now whispering furiously, holding up their phones, recording her absolute public humiliation. She had lost the fortune before she even got to finish her first toast.
