Chapter 5 - A New Horizon

I didn't stay in my hometown to watch the trial unfold. I had a degree, graduating at the top of my class, and a fierce drive to succeed.

I accepted a lucrative job offer at a top-tier marketing firm in Chicago. The company had actually seen the viral video of my graduation. During my interview, the CEO looked at me and said, “Anyone who can stand up to their abusers in front of a thousand people and calmly deliver a killing blow is exactly the kind of fearless negotiator I want on my team.”

I moved into a beautiful high-rise apartment overlooking Lake Michigan. I furnished it myself, with money I actually earned. I bought a comfortable couch, hung up art, and placed my framed diploma right in the center of the living room wall.

I was free.
