Chapter 9 - The Calvary

The massive iron front doors were suddenly ripped open by an armored breaching vehicle.

Dozens of FBI tactical agents flooded into the grand foyer like a tidal wave.

Red laser sights danced across the chests of the syndicate mercenaries.

The mercenary leader cursed under his breath and dropped his rifle, knowing he was completely outgunned.

His men quickly followed suit, kicking their weapons across the floor and dropping to their knees.

I let out a massive breath I didn't know I was holding.

I stepped out from behind the ruined pillar, dragging the heavy incubator with me.

My father looked up, seeing me safe, and finally allowed himself to collapse from his injuries.

FBI medics rushed into the room, immediately applying pressure to my father's shoulder.

Other agents forcefully zip-tied the mercenaries and dragged them out to the transport vehicles.

Wesley tried to casually walk toward the exit, pretending he was a victim.

An agent slammed him against the wall and locked heavy steel cuffs on his wrists.

Margaret shrieked as an agent placed her under arrest for treason and conspiracy.

“You cannot do this to me, I am Margaret Pembroke!” she screamed.

Nobody listened to her as she was hauled out into the cold autumn air.

I opened the incubator and pulled June out, holding her tightly against my chest.

She was crying, but she was completely unharmed.

The chaos in the room began to settle into organized federal protocol.

A tall man in a pristine tailored suit walked through the ruined doorway.

His badge identified him as Director Vance, the head of the regional FBI division.

He surveyed the damage and walked directly over to me.

He looked at the baby, then at my exhausted face, and offered a warm, reassuring smile.

“You did an incredible job holding them off, Captain Ellis,” the Director said.

He held out his hand expectantly.

“I will take the microchip now to secure the evidence.”
