Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

The sun set completely over the calm waters of the bay as Elias handed me a second glass of champagne.
I leaned back in the comfortable patio chair, feeling a profound sense of closure wash over my soul.
The nightmares of Ryan, Ashley, and the violent funeral had finally faded into distant memories.
I was no longer the weak, unsuspecting wife who could be easily manipulated and broken.
I had reclaimed my mother’s legacy, built a thriving foundation, and completely restored my own independence.
Elias and I spent hours talking about our future plans, our shared dreams, and the possibility of traveling together.
I finally felt completely safe and absolutely ready to start this beautiful new chapter of my life.
A cool evening breeze swept across the patio, making me shiver slightly in my thin evening dress.
"I left my phone inside, I will be right back," I told Elias with a warm, genuine smile.
I walked into the kitchen, intending to take a quick photograph of the beautiful moonlight reflecting on the water.
Elias had left his dark suit jacket draped casually over one of the tall kitchen barstools.
I noticed a small, folded piece of thick parchment paper sticking out of his inner breast pocket.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I carefully pulled the document out to glance at it.
It was a highly classified, finalized life insurance policy taken out in my exact name.
The policy was worth fifty million dollars, and it featured a perfectly forged copy of my personal signature.
I flipped to the final page, my blood instantly turning to pure ice in my veins.

The document listed Elias as the sole, uncontested beneficiary in the event of my accidental death.
At the very bottom of the page, a handwritten note read: "Phase Two is ready to begin."
