Chapter 7 - The Underground Cell

My vision swam in a blurry haze as I slowly regained consciousness.
The smell of harsh bleach and damp concrete invaded my senses.
I tried to move my arms, but thick leather straps bound my wrists tightly to a metal chair.
I blinked rapidly, clearing the lingering effects of the electric shock from my eyes.
I was sitting in the middle of a windowless, brightly lit concrete room.
It looked exactly like an abandoned hospital operating theater.
"Ariel!" I screamed, my voice echoing loudly off the bare, cold walls.
"She is completely safe, Maya," a calm voice answered from the dark corner of the room.
Dr. Evans, my former fertility specialist, stepped into the harsh fluorescent light.
He was no longer wearing his tactical gear, but rather a crisp, clean white medical coat.
"Where is my daughter, you psycho?" I demanded, struggling violently against the heavy restraints.
He pulled a small stool over and sat perfectly out of my physical reach.
"She is currently resting comfortably in the nursery down the hall," he replied smoothly.
"Why are you doing this to me?" I cried, tears of absolute frustration spilling over my cheeks.
Dr. Evans sighed heavily, looking at me with an infuriating expression of clinical pity.
"Your father is a very rich and very dangerous man, Maya," he explained slowly.
"When Clara bribed me to switch the embryos, I realized the immense power I suddenly held."
He stood up and walked over to a metal tray filled with gleaming surgical instruments.
"I didn't use donor sperm for your procedure like you requested," he confessed without emotion.
"I knew Clara and Glen's plan would eventually unravel, and I wanted the ultimate leverage."
My heart hammered aggressively against my ribs as I waited for the final, sickening truth.
"Whose sperm did you use?" I asked, my voice barely above an terrified whisper.
Dr. Evans smiled, picking up a sharp silver scalpel from the clean metal tray.
"I used my own, Maya," he stated proudly.

"Ariel is my biological daughter, and I am finally taking my family back."
Before I could even process the horror of his words, the heavy metal door behind him exploded inward.
