Chapter 6 - The Counter-Trap

Blake paced around the head of the table like a predator who had just cornered his prey.

He gloated that he had recognized my pathetic, small-minded financial strategies months ago.

He claimed he had deliberately lured me into buying up their toxic debt just to trap me.

My father watched the exchange in stunned silence, unable to comprehend that his failure of a son was a billionaire.

I stood completely still, letting Blake enjoy his arrogant monologue.

Blake pointed at the yellow folder on the table and demanded I open it.

He said he was excited to see what kind of forged documents a blue-collar loser had managed to put together.

I reached out and slowly opened the cover of the folder.

I slid the printed copies of his offshore embezzlement ledger across the glass table.

I told the board members that Blake had been stealing from their pension funds for nearly a decade.

The executives grabbed the papers, their faces turning pale as they read the undeniable transaction histories.

Blake did not panic or deny the accusations at all.

Instead, he pulled a sleek black remote control from his pocket and pressed a button.

The massive projector screen behind him illuminated with a live video feed.

The video showed the mechanic sitting tied to a chair in a dark, concrete basement.

The mechanic was bruised, bleeding, and looking directly into the camera lens.

Blake proudly announced that he had intercepted my star witness last night before I could use him.

My heart hammered against my ribs, but I kept my face entirely devoid of emotion.

Blake played a recorded statement where the terrified mechanic claimed I had paid him to lie about Rebecca's brakes.

The mechanic on the screen swore that Ethan Sterling had orchestrated his own wife's murder for the insurance money.

The boardroom erupted into furious whispers and outraged shouts.

My father stood up, his hands shaking violently as he pointed a finger at my chest.

He called me a monster and demanded that security arrest me immediately.

Blake smiled the same cruel smile he wore when he ruined June's birthday cake.

He told me that my attempt at revenge had just handed him the perfect scapegoat.

He confidently stated that the police were already waiting in the lobby to take me away.

I looked at the video of the mechanic, and then I looked at my golden brother.

I slowly buttoned my custom suit jacket and let out a soft, amused chuckle.

I told Blake that he was entirely correct about one thing.

The police were definitely waiting downstairs in the lobby.

But I was not the one who had called them.
