Chapter 5 - The Missing Witness

Vance frantically explained that the safe house door had been kicked in and the mechanic’s belongings were gone.

Without the mechanic’s live testimony, my brother could easily claim the audio recording was a digital fake.

The entire murder charge against Blake was suddenly hanging by a thread.

I closed my eyes and took a slow, deep breath to steady my racing heart.

I told Vance that the murder charge was only part of the ultimate revenge plan.

Even without the witness, I still legally owned every single dollar of the Sterling family's debt.

I hung up the phone and stepped into the glass elevator, pressing the button for the penthouse boardroom.

The elevator music hummed softly as I ascended forty floors above the city streets.

I thought about Rebecca's smile, and I thought about the fear in June's eyes when that cake was destroyed.

I was not going to let a missing mechanic stop me from destroying the golden son today.

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, revealing the luxurious marble reception area.

The young receptionist looked up from her desk and frowned at my unfamiliar face.

She told me the executive floor was strictly closed for a private shareholder crisis meeting.

I did not say a word to her.

I simply walked past her desk and pushed open the heavy mahogany doors of the main boardroom.

The room was filled with twenty anxious board members sitting around a massive glass table.

At the head of the table sat my father, looking frail, gray, and completely defeated by the company's financial ruin.

Standing confidently next to him was Blake, wearing a smug smile and holding a laser pointer.

Blake was in the middle of explaining how he was going to save the company from the evil Castle Holdings.

The entire room went dead silent as I walked through the doors.

My father dropped his luxury pen on the table, his eyes wide with absolute shock.

He had not seen my face in five long years.

Blake sneered and immediately signaled for the corporate security guards standing by the door.

He loudly demanded to know how a pathetic air conditioning repairman had gotten past the lobby security.

I ignored his insult and walked slowly toward the empty leather chair directly opposite my father.

I placed the bright yellow folder gently onto the glass table.

I looked directly into my father's eyes and told him I was the CEO of Castle Holdings.

A collective gasp echoed through the boardroom as the executives realized their mystery creditor was the disowned son.

Blake burst into loud, theatrical laughter, clapping his hands together mockingly.

He proudly announced to the room that he knew I was behind the fake company the entire time.
