Chapter 7 - The Master Key

Uncle Marco absolutely did not have the necessary time to explain his miraculous resurrection.
Dante's vital heart monitor suddenly began to beep in a frantic, terrifyingly erratic rhythm.
"Get her out of this room right now so I can work!" Marco yelled aggressively at the remaining nurses.
A heavy, soundproof door slammed sharply in my face, leaving Vanessa and me completely alone in a cold waiting room.
I paced the deeply cracked linoleum floor anxiously for three agonizing, endless hours.
Everything I ever knew about my entire family had been a carefully constructed, elaborate illusion.
Finally, the heavy operating room door swung open with a soft click.
Marco stepped out wearily, his blue surgical scrubs heavily stained with Dante's blood.
"He will live, but he genuinely needs time to heal," Marco sighed heavily, wiping sweat from his forehead.
I crossed my arms defensively, demanding honest answers with a hardened, unbreakable glare.
"Roman viciously ordered my immediate execution ten years ago," Marco explained quietly, reading my demanding expression.
"Your brilliant father helped me fake my tragic death so I could secretly run the underground medical network."
He looked curiously at the silver hard drive currently resting safely on the waiting room table.
"I assume you finally found my late brother's ultimate insurance policy."
I nodded silently, handing the incredibly heavy drive carefully over to him.
Marco walked purposefully over to a secure, encrypted computer terminal in the corner of the room.
He firmly plugged the drive in and typed in a remarkably long sequence of complex passwords.
A massive, overwhelming list of offshore bank accounts instantly populated the glowing screen.
"This is it," Vanessa breathed in pure, undeniable awe.
"This is every single dime Roman has ever stolen, extorted, or laundered."
Marco frowned deeply, clicking aggressively on the screen's main transfer button.
A massive red warning box flashed violently and aggressively across the monitor.
"The funds cannot be moved freely with just a simple password," Marco realized with creeping horror.
He turned his head slowly to look directly at me.
"Your father secured the master account entirely with a biometric lock."
I stared blankly at the screen, my blood running completely cold in my veins.
The computer was clearly requesting a high-resolution retinal scan.
"It is genetically coded specifically to your exact DNA, Evelyn."

Roman had never married me for blind love, toxic possession, or cruel tradition.
He had married me because my unique eyes were the sole, singular key to his entirely hidden empire.
