Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

The patrol car’s tires screamed loudly as David forcefully drifted into the dark, completely abandoned marina parking lot.
The freezing rain had escalated into a massive, torrential downpour, reducing our physical visibility to almost absolute zero.
Through the thick, blinding sheets of rain, I finally spotted the dark gray van idling near the very end of Pier Four.
A massive, sleek luxury yacht was docked right beside it, its powerful, heavy engines already humming deeply in the black water.
David instantly cut the headlights, and we silently rolled to a stealthy stop behind a massive stack of rusted shipping containers.
We both drew our weapons and moved highly tactically through the deep shadows, the fierce wind howling violently around us.
As we crept closer, I could clearly hear angry, desperate, and panicked shouting coming from the wooden dock.
I carefully peered around the rusted edge of a container and saw Michael violently gripping a terrified, shivering woman.
My mother looked dangerously, horrifyingly pale, barely able to even stand upright in the freezing, violent storm.
Dana was screaming hysterically at Captain Ross, pointing a heavy handgun directly at his chest.
Ross had a massive black duffel bag full of stolen cash slung casually over his shoulder and a cruel, mocking smirk on his face.
He calmly told Dana that there was only room for one single fugitive on the boat, and it certainly was not going to be her.
Dana realized in that absolute, crushing moment that she and Michael had been nothing but highly disposable pawns in Ross's grand scheme.
Ross smoothly raised his own weapon, callously preparing to execute his own niece right there on the wet wooden dock.
Michael finally panicked completely, foolishly stepping directly in front of Dana to physically shield her from the bullet.
I absolutely could not wait for them to finish destroying each other while my mother was dying.
I stepped boldly out from behind the metal container and fired a loud warning shot directly into the wooden planks between them.
Everyone froze instantly, turning in absolute shock to see me standing in the relentless rain with my weapon raised.
I aggressively demanded that Michael let our mother go immediately, or I would put a bullet in his head.
Ross just laughed loudly over the roaring storm, quickly aiming his gun directly at my mother’s fragile head.
He confidently told me that if I took one more single step, he would gladly paint the entire dock with her blood.
David suddenly stepped out from the completely opposite side, seamlessly locking his red laser sight squarely onto Ross's forehead.
The resulting standoff was incredibly, suffocatingly tense, perfectly balanced on a terrifying knife's edge of absolute violence.
Suddenly, my mother, finding a final, miraculous surge of desperate strength, stomped her hard heel violently into Michael's foot.
May you like
Michael yelped loudly in pain and completely released his physical grip for just a fraction of a second.
My mother bravely threw herself completely sideways off the pier and plunged directly into the freezing, dark ocean below.
