Chapter 2 - The Stolen Estate

I stared at the forged legal document as the heavy rain hammered violently against my windshield.

My mother was an incredibly wealthy woman, though she had always chosen to live modestly and quietly.

Her estate included prime commercial real estate in the city center and a massive, highly profitable stock portfolio.

Dana had not just wanted to hurt her physically during a trivial family argument.

Dana wanted to erase her completely and steal every single cent she had ever earned.

I put the car in gear and sped recklessly toward Westbridge General Hospital.

My mother remained completely silent, clutching her bruised ribs tightly with every bump in the road.

When we finally arrived at the emergency room, I aggressively used my state credentials to bypass the crowded waiting area.

A senior trauma doctor named Dr. Aris recognized my badge and immediately took her into a private, secure examination room.

I paced the hallway outside, my blood boiling with a quiet, highly calculated rage.

My phone buzzed incessantly in my pocket with frantic calls from Michael, but I ignored every single one of them.

Thirty agonizing minutes later, Dr. Aris stepped out into the hallway with a deeply grim expression on his face.

He told me my mother had a fractured wrist, two broken ribs, and a severely dislocated shoulder.

But that was not even the worst part of his horrific medical diagnosis.

He pulled up the digital X-rays on his tablet, pointing to several older, partially healed bone fractures.

This was clearly not the first time someone had violently attacked her in her own home.

The systematic physical abuse had been going on in absolute secret for at least six months.

I felt a sickening, crushing wave of guilt wash over me for not visiting my childhood home more often.

I silently promised myself right then and there that I would utterly destroy everyone involved in this nightmare.

I walked back into the sterile hospital room and gently held my mother's uninjured hand.

I softly asked her why she had never told me Michael and Dana were hurting her.

She looked away in shame, fresh tears spilling down her bruised, swollen cheeks.

She whispered that Dana had threatened to falsely accuse Michael of horrific, unspeakable crimes if she ever went to the police.

Dana was brilliantly using my cowardly brother as a hostage to completely control my mother’s immense wealth.

I pulled out my secure work laptop and immediately accessed the state county property database.

I needed to freeze the massive asset transfer before Dana could liquidate the accounts and disappear.

I rapidly typed in my mother's social security number to initiate a total lockdown of the estate.

A bright, flashing red error message suddenly dominated my screen.

Access completely denied by federal injunction.

I stared at the blinking cursor in total, absolute disbelief.

Someone had already legally frozen the accounts using a high-level federal court order.

The authorized name printed on the digital federal injunction was Evelyn Hale.

Someone was flawlessly impersonating me to completely steal my mother's fortune.
