Chapter 6 - The Burning Truth

A massive, deafening explosion ripped through the phone's tiny speaker, forcing Arthur to physically drop the cheap plastic device onto the cold concrete floor in sheer horror.
"Maria! Pick up the phone right now, Maria, answer me!" Arthur screamed desperately through the iron bars, his booming voice echoing uselessly down the completely empty cell block.
There was absolutely no response from the burner phone, only the chilling, empty hiss of dead static that felt like a sharp dagger twisting violently in his chest.
Arthur aggressively grabbed the rusted iron bars of his cage, shaking them with an inhuman, adrenaline-fueled strength born from pure, unadulterated paternal rage.
He finally realized the true, horrifying extent of Marcus's incredibly evil master plan to secure the massive trust fund without leaving any loose ends.
The corrupt lawyer had fully intended to enthusiastically blow up his own greedy accomplice, Elena, ensuring he would never have to split the stolen millions with anyone else.
Suddenly, the heavy steel door at the end of the long corridor violently exploded inward, completely ripped off its heavy iron hinges by a massive, shaped breaching charge.
Thick, blinding white smoke instantly flooded the narrow hallway, heavily obscuring the chaotic figures moving rapidly through the deafening destruction.
Arthur instinctively threw himself forcefully onto the sticky floor, covering his ringing ears as the piercing wail of the precinct's main security alarms began to shriek uncontrollably.
Two heavily armed figures wearing completely black tactical gear and full gas masks sprinted smoothly through the thick smoke, stopping directly in front of Arthur's locked cage.
One of the mysterious figures swiftly attached a small, glowing device to the electronic locking mechanism of the cell door, while the other kept a suppressed rifle aggressively aimed down the hallway.
With a sharp, crackling spark, the complex electronic lock completely short-circuited, and the heavy iron door forcefully swung open on its protesting hinges.
The smaller of the two tactical figures quickly stepped into the dark cell, reaching up to forcefully rip off their heavy protective gas mask and revealing a completely unexpected face.
"Get off the floor right now, Mr. Vance, because we have a heavily guarded airplane to legally intercept," Maria stated firmly, wiping a streak of black soot from her bruised forehead.
Arthur stared at the incredibly brave nanny in absolute, stunned silence, his exhausted brain completely failing to comprehend how she had possibly survived the massive car explosion.
"I found the blinking explosive device ten seconds before it actually detonated, and I managed to dive into a deep drainage ditch just as the car blew to pieces," Maria explained rapidly, tossing him a heavy tactical vest.
"Where in the hell did you acquire military-grade breaching explosives and fully automatic weapons in less than an hour?" Arthur demanded, quickly strapping the heavy armor tightly over his ruined suit.
The second tactical figure slowly pulled off their own heavy gas mask, revealing the intensely focused and deeply scarred face of Arthur's formerly retired head of corporate security, David.
"When Maria desperately called me and explained that Marcus had successfully bought the entire local police force, I decided it was time to forcefully activate my old contingency protocols," David growled, handing Arthur a loaded sidearm.
Arthur felt a massive surge of renewed hope and fierce determination coursing through his exhausted veins as he expertly checked the loaded chamber of his weapon.
"Marcus is systematically tying up all of his loose ends, which means Elena and my son are currently trapped at the private airfield with a man actively trying to kill them," Arthur stated grimly.
"Then we need to move immediately, because my internal scanners indicate that a heavily modified private jet is currently warming up its massive engines on runway four," David warned, gesturing sharply toward the destroyed doorway.
The three heavily armed protectors sprinted aggressively out of the ruined police station, completely ignoring the stunned and cowardly corrupt officers who were wildly fleeing the thick smoke.
They quickly piled into a heavily armored black SUV idling dangerously on the dark street corner, and David aggressively slammed his heavy boot completely down onto the gas pedal.
The massive vehicle violently tore through the quiet city streets, running multiple red lights and dodging civilian traffic with incredible, highly dangerous precision.
As they finally smashed aggressively through the locked chain-link gates of the private executive airfield, Arthur's heart completely stopped dead in his chest.
The luxurious private jet was already slowly rolling down the brightly lit runway, preparing to forcefully launch itself into the dark night sky with his terrified son trapped safely inside.
"Ram the landing gear right now, David, do not let that damn plane leave the ground under any circumstances!" Arthur screamed wildly, leaning out of the moving vehicle with his weapon raised.

Before the heavy SUV could physically intercept the accelerating aircraft, the massive main cabin door of the moving jet suddenly flew completely open.
A bruised and heavily bleeding Elena was violently shoved out of the moving aircraft, tumbling wildly across the hard concrete runway as Marcus coldly aimed a massive shotgun directly at her chest.
