Chapter 10 - The New Current

Six months later.

The Blackwood Citadel looked different. The oppressive, dark slate had been lightened with natural woods and open windows. The Abyssal Vault was gone entirely, replaced by a massive, open-air marine rehabilitation center. Instead of caging monsters for display, the facility was now used to heal injured sea life before releasing them back into the wild.

Chloe stood on the balcony overlooking the ocean. She wore a simple, tailored suit, looking every bit the CEO, but without the cold cruelty her father had carried. Under her leadership, Blackwood Deep-Sea Excavations had pivoted from aggressive drilling to sustainable oceanic engineering.

Arthur Sterling was currently facing federal indictment for corporate terrorism, his own empire crumbling under the weight of the evidence they had recovered from the Vanguard.

Footsteps echoed on the deck behind her. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

Finn leaned against the railing next to her. He was no longer covered in oil and grease. He wore a crisp, clean shirt, though he still looked like a man who preferred a wrench over a spreadsheet. As the newly appointed Head of Oceanic Operations, he spent more time in the water than in the boardroom.

"The new filtration systems for the rehab tanks are online," Finn reported, looking out at the horizon. "No micro-fractures. No rhythmic vibrations. Just clean, steady flow."

"You did good, Finn," Chloe said, a genuine smile touching her lips.

"We did good," Finn corrected her. He looked down at the churning surf at the base of the cliffs. "Your father built this place to conquer the ocean. He thought he could put it in a box."

"He never understood that the ocean doesn't belong to anyone," Chloe replied, the sea breeze catching her hair. "You can't cage it. You can only learn to swim with it."

Finn turned to look at her, the early morning light reflecting in his eyes. The tension, the danger, and the ghosts of the past six months had forged a bond between them that was stronger than titanium.

"So," Finn said, a playful smirk crossing his face. "What are we building next?"

Chloe looked out over the vast, untamed expanse of the sea, the weight of her father's legacy finally washed away, replaced by the boundless potential of the horizon.

"Whatever we want," she said.
