Chapter 2 - The Clinic's Secret
Eleanor looked around the room with an expression of absolute disgust.
"Grab the child and let us leave this filthy place," she ordered her guards.
The doctor backed away toward the emergency exit, shielding my son with his own body.
"You are committing a federal crime," the doctor warned them desperately.
Julian laughed a cruel, hollow laugh that echoed off the sterile walls.
"Nobody cares about a disgraced auditor and a lying doctor," Julian replied.
I forced myself to sit up despite the agonizing pain radiating through my exhausted body.
"Whose genetic material did you steal, Julian?" I demanded fiercely.
Julian smiled as he adjusted his expensive silk tie.
"I stole a sample from Alexander Sterling, the richest man in the entire country."
My blood ran completely ice cold.
Alexander Sterling was a notoriously ruthless billionaire who destroyed anyone who crossed him.
Julian and Eleanor had intentionally created his biological heir to extort his massive empire.
"You are completely insane if you think Sterling will pay you for a child he never wanted," I said.
Eleanor stepped forward and slapped me hard across the face.
"Sterling has been searching for a biological heir for ten years," she hissed.
"We are going to demand two billion dollars in exchange for the boy's life."
The doctor reached for the emergency panic button on the wall.
Eleanor saw his movement and snapped her fingers at the guards.
One of the massive men rushed forward and shoved the doctor violently to the floor.
The guard snatched my screaming baby from the doctor's arms.
I screamed and tried to lunge out of the hospital bed, but the pain paralyzed me.
Suddenly, the bright fluorescent lights in the delivery room flickered and died.
The entire hospital plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.

A loud, mechanical voice echoed through the hospital's emergency intercom system.
"The building is now under complete lockdown by order of federal authorities."
