Chapter 6 - The Blackout

Aria tightly gripped the heavy handgun, her brilliant mind racing rapidly through thousands of desperate, impossible tactical calculations.

She looked down at Marcus, who was absolutely pathetic and weeping openly as he begged a twenty-four-year-old girl for his miserable life.

"I am not a killer, Julian, and I refuse to become a monster for you," Aria said firmly, locking eyes with her corrupted brother.

She instantly spun entirely around and shot the massive, glowing crystal chandelier hanging directly above the armed mercenaries.

The deafening, explosive gunshot was immediately followed by the terrifying, screeching sound of snapping steel support cables.

The enormous glass structure crashed violently to the marble floor, completely crushing the main electrical power conduits.

The entire sprawling ballroom was instantly plunged into absolute, suffocating, pitch-black darkness.

Screams of sheer terror echoed wildly as the elite guests scrambled blindly and frantically through the completely unlit room.

Aria felt a surprisingly strong hand grab her wrist firmly and pull her forcefully into the chaotic, pushing crowd.

It was Leonard, perfectly using his extensive, intimate knowledge of the building's architecture to navigate without any sight.

"We need to reach the underground service tunnels immediately before they activate their military night vision goggles," Leonard whispered intensely into her ear.

Suddenly, someone collided heavily with Aria in the dark, violently knocking the breath from her lungs and nearly pushing her to the floor.

Aria blindly grabbed the person's arm and realized it was a wildly thrashing, completely terrified Selena Voss.

"Please do not leave me here to die in the dark," Selena sobbed, her cruel arrogance entirely shattered by genuine, paralyzing fear.

Aria hesitated for a fraction of a second, vividly remembering the humiliating, awful sound of her beautiful dress tearing.

Despite the intense cruelty she had endured, Aria simply could not leave a helpless, terrified girl to be slaughtered by ruthless mercenaries.

She grabbed Selena's trembling hand and pulled her quickly along as they blindly followed Leonard toward the echoing kitchen corridors.

They barely managed to slip through a heavy steel service door just as bright green tactical lasers wildly sliced through the dark ballroom.

They sprinted desperately down the narrow, damp concrete hallway, trying to reach the highly secure underground security bunker.

Suddenly, a heavy metal security grate dropped violently from the ceiling, permanently and physically separating Leonard from the two young women.
