Chapter 8 - The Empire of Lies

The horrifying revelation hit Natalie like a physical blow to the chest, completely stealing the breath from her lungs.

Her father, the respected corporate patriarch, was the true mastermind running the violent money-laundering syndicate.

She listened in sheer agony as her father calmly stepped out of the luxury car, leaning heavily on his silver cane.

He looked at Marcus with utter disgust, aggressively slapping the younger man across the face for ruining the entire operation.

He explained that the wedding was just a massive public relations cover to legally transfer the dirty money offshore.

Marcus had ruined everything by losing his temper on the terrace and drawing the attention of the authorities.

The father coldly ordered his mercenaries to untie Chloe and throw her into the back of the limousine.

He stated that both of his daughters were now terrible liabilities that needed to be permanently erased from the family tree.

Natalie felt a boiling, uncontrollable rage completely replace the paralyzing shock in her heart.

She stood up on the metal catwalk, absolutely refusing to hide like a coward while her father destroyed her family.

She pointed the small backup revolver directly at the ceiling and pulled the trigger, sending a deafening crack through the warehouse.

Every single mercenary on the floor instantly raised their high-powered weapons toward the upper levels.

Natalie stared down at her father, her voice echoing powerfully as she declared that his criminal empire was finally over.

Her father laughed a cold, humorless laugh, mocking her bravery and ordering his men to shoot her down.

Before the mercenaries could fire, Raymond triggered a massive electrical panel he had sabotaged near the entrance.

The entire warehouse was instantly plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.

Gunfire erupted blindly from the factory floor, the bright muzzle flashes illuminating the chaos like a terrifying strobe light.

Raymond provided expert covering fire, accurately taking down three heavily armed guards in the total darkness.

Natalie scrambled down the metal staircase, using the intense confusion to slip completely unnoticed behind the luxury limousine.

She grabbed Chloe’s arm, quickly slicing through the heavy zip ties with a pocket knife she found in the truck.

She pulled her weeping sister into the deep shadows just as the backup generator suddenly kicked on, flooding the room with red emergency lights.

Marcus spotted the two women running toward the exit and sprinted after them with his weapon raised.

He tackled Natalie violently to the concrete floor, pressing the cold steel of his gun directly against her temple.

He smiled his terrifying, arrogant smile, whispering that she should have just eaten the damn wedding cake.

Suddenly, a massive gunshot echoed from the entrance, and Marcus collapsed heavily onto the floor beside her.
