Chapter 4 - The Predator's Car

Panic seized Natalie's throat as she stared at the terrifying life insurance document in her shaking hands.
She realized she had just willingly climbed into the car of a man who stood to gain millions from her death.
Raymond climbed into the driver's seat, closing his door and sealing them in the quiet darkness of the cabin.
He turned the key in the ignition, and the heavy engine roared to life, locking the doors automatically.
Natalie frantically tried to pull the door handle, but the child safety locks were fully engaged.
Raymond noticed her panic and glanced over, his eyes locking onto the document clutched tightly in her hand.
He let out a heavy sigh, shifting the car into gear and pulling away from the massive family estate.
He calmly told her to stop panicking and listen to him before she made a terrible mistake.
He explained that Marcus had secretly named Raymond as the beneficiary to frame the detective for the impending murder.
Raymond claimed the syndicate had been trying to destroy his career for years because he was getting too close to their boss.
Natalie stared at him, desperately trying to read the truth in his hardened, exhausted eyes.
She did not know whether to trust the rugged detective or smash the window and jump onto the highway.
She pulled the burner phone from her purse, deciding she needed to find her own leverage in this deadly game.
She scrolled through the hidden banking application, using Marcus's saved credentials to access the live accounts.
She hoped to freeze the stolen funds before the syndicate could permanently transfer them offshore.
As the encrypted application loaded, a bright red warning banner flashed across the tiny screen.
The banking system indicated that a massive withdrawal of ten million dollars was actively processing right now.
Natalie gasped, realizing Marcus was supposedly sitting in a heavily guarded holding cell at the local precinct.
She turned to Raymond, shouting that someone from the inside was currently authorizing the massive wire transfer.
Raymond slammed his foot on the brakes, pulling the police cruiser sharply onto the dark shoulder of the road.
He pulled out his police radio, calling dispatch to check on the prisoner currently held in cell block four.
The radio crackled with static for a long moment before a terrified dispatcher finally answered.
The dispatcher’s voice trembled as she reported that cell block four was completely empty and two guards were dead.
Marcus had not just escaped police custody; he had completely vanished into the city night.

Suddenly, a massive black SUV materialized from the darkness behind them, accelerating to a terrifying speed.
The heavy vehicle violently rammed the back of Raymond’s cruiser, launching them off the dark highway.
