Chapter 10 - The True Legacy

One Year Later.
The grand ballroom of the Crestview Plaza was packed with the elite of Chicago. It was the annual Sterling Foundation Charity Gala.
A year ago, I had canceled this exact event to rush a sick man to the hospital. Tonight, I was standing on the stage, looking out at a sea of smiling faces.
"For decades, I believed that my legacy was built in steel, glass, and bank accounts," I spoke into the microphone, my voice echoing through the beautiful room. "I built towers, but my home was empty."
I looked down at the front table. Julian was sitting there, looking handsome in his tuxedo, holding a sleeping Leo in his arms.
"This past year, I learned that true wealth cannot be measured by a stock ticker," I continued. "It is measured by the people who stand by you. It is measured by the forgiveness of a son, and the smile of a grandson."
The crowd erupted into warm, genuine applause.
"Tonight, I am officially stepping down as CEO of Sterling Holdings," I announced, to the shock of the room. "It is time for a new era. I am proud to introduce the new CEO, my son, Julian Sterling."
Julian handed Leo to his nanny, stood up, and walked onto the stage. The applause was deafening. He shook my hand, then pulled me into a tight hug.
"I'm so proud of you," I whispered.
"I love you, Dad," Julian said.

I stepped back, letting him take the podium. My time as a ruthless corporate tycoon was officially over. I was trading boardroom battles for little league games and family dinners.
The broken wallet, the stolen years, and the bitter tears were finally behind us. I looked at my son and my grandson, my heart completely full. The Sterling empire was secure, but more importantly, our family was finally whole.
